This card makes sense for anyone who flies on Aeromexico at least once per year. But, if you can't take advantage of the Aeromexico-specific benefits, the signup bonus isn't good enough to make the card very interesting.

Aeromexico Credit Card Options

There are two different versions of the AeroMexico credit card.

  • Signature Card. If you are interested in an Aeromexico card, either for the long term, or just for the signup bonus, you'll want to get the Signature version, which is the main focus of this guide.
  • "Regular" Card. The regular version of the card has a smaller signup bonus (10,000 vs. 15,000 miles), gives you less points when you renew the card (2,000 vs 4,000 miles), and doesn't provide an upgrade certificate every year. But, its $45 annual fee is $35 less than the Signature Card. U.S. Bank webpage. Aeromexico Webpage.

Introduction to Aeromexico Points

  • You can use your Aeromexico points on Delta Airlines, any other SkyTeam airline, and any of Aeromexico's other airline partners. Some example partners include Air France, KLM, and Korean airlines.
  • You can easily combine your Aeromexico and Membership Rewards points, to book awards. Aeromexico is a partner of the Membership Rewards and Marriott transferable point programs.

Collecting the Signup Bonus

This card is primarily interesting for its Aeromexico benefits, not for its signup bonus. After subtracting the annual fee and the opportunity cost of using the card for $mile of spending, the calculated net value for the initial year is $15000 (Expression error: Unrecognized word "mile". cents per dollar spent). Because Aeromexico is part of SkyTeam, you can use the miles to book tickets on any SkyTeam airline, including Delta. That's not bad, but U.S. Bank offers better signup offers on other cards, and the number of cards you can get approved for is relatively low. You are better off focusing your attention on more lucrative cards.

Companion Certificate

When you first get the Aeromexico card, you'll get a companion certificate, and you'll get an additional certificate every year you renew the card. The certificate lets you bring along a companion for only $99 plus taxes. But, the initial ticket needs to be to be booked at a non-discounted rate (Aeromexico’s Plus rate). Given that this rate is typically close-to, or more-than, double the price of a discounted coach seat, you may pay more (in total) when you use the companion certificate, than if just bought two regular tickets. Of course, there will be times when there are no discounted rates available, and the companion certificate will provide some value. Other Notable Benefits

  • Free checked bags. This benefit is only available to cardholders, not to their travelling companions. But adding authorized cardholders is free, and they also get this benefit.
  • An upgrade certificate every year. Each one is good for a free upgrade to business class.
  • Buy 3, get 1 free. Anytime you purchase four or more tickets for a trip on Aeromexico, you'll get one ticket for free. Great for family travel.
  • 4,000 annual bonus miles, Every year you renew your card, you'll get 4,000 miles along with your companion certificate, and upgrade certificate.
  • Access to the Visa Signature Luxury Hotel Collection. As with all Visa Signature cards, you'll get access to Visa's luxury hotel program. Whenever you book one of the 900+ participating hotels, you'll receive a set of valuable benefits, including free breakfast, late check-out, and a $25 food and beverage credit. The Visa program has slightly weaker benefits than the other luxury hotel programs, but includes a larger number of more affordable hotel options and a best price guarantee. Take Advantage of Luxury Hotel Programs for Valuable Extra Perks.
  • Access to Visa Signature Offers. Your card entitles you to a set of special offers available from Visa.

Bonus Categories

  • You are better off making your Aeromexico purchases with a card that earns a high reward rate on all your airfare spending. 2x Aeromexico miles are more valuable than what you'd earn from most general-purpose reward cards, but not as good as what you'd earn from a card that offers high bonus rewards on airfare purchases. For example, you are better off earning 2x, 3x, or 5x Membership Rewards points, which can be turned into Aeromexico miles, and also have the flexibility to be used for other types of award redemptions. • There are better options for your grocery and gas purchases.
